The Multnomah County Health Department has published general guidance on heat safety that touches on sleep hygiene, though the county's materials focus primarily on vulnerable populations during heat emergencies rather than the broader population of working adults quietly accumulating a sleep deficit across July and August.
What Actually Helps
The interventions that work are less dramatic than people expect. Cooling the bedroom before 9 p.m., running a fan to exhaust hot air out through one window while drawing cooler air from a north-facing window, can drop ambient room temperature by 4 to 6 degrees before bed.
